Travel Details
Destination: Lofoten Islands
We recognize that the journey to get to Lofoten is quite an arduous one, and we have tried to provide as much information as possible below to ease your planning.
If you have any questions as you begin to plan your trip leading up to the wedding, please feel free to reach out. Ultimately, we hope that the journey is just as enjoyable as the destination!
Given Lofoten is so remote, you might choose to stay in the area beyond the two nights that we all spend together for the wedding. We have included some suggestions for the area, in addition to some suggestions in the rest of Norway that we enjoyed during our holiday there in 2024.
This picture is in Iceland - so it’s not highlighted on the list, but Icelandair does offer a free stop-over if you want to include that in your trip planning!
Getting to Reinefjorden Sjøhus
-
Fly then Ferry
Fly into Bodø (BOO) from Oslo, then pick up a rental car in Bodø to take across on the Ferry to Moskenes (3.5 hour ferry). From Moskenes, Reinefjorden Sjøhus is only a 15 minute drive!
It is highly recommended that ferry bookings are made in advance if you are bringing a vehicle, and can be booked on the Torghatten website.
-
Fly then Drive
Fly into Harstad/Narvik Airport (EVE) in Evenes directly from Oslo, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Bergamo, Milan (Malpensa), Copenhagen, Vienna, or Zurich depending on the day of the week. These routes are for 2025, so we will update with 2026 routes when available.
From Evenes, you can rent a car and drive 280km (4.5 hours) to Reine or take bus 300 (Narvik Ekspressen) to Svolvær where you could coordinate to be picked up by another guest who rented a car for the remaining 115km (2 hour) journey to Reine.
-
Fly to Lofoten
Lofoten itself has two small airports: Svolvær (SVJ) - 115km (2 hour drive) to Reine, and Leknes (LKN) - 50km (1.25 hour drive) to Reine.
Both are small airports and have limited car rentals available upon arrival. Lofoten Car Hire is a local company (linked below) is based at LKN, and offers car rental delivery to Moskenes (ferry terminal), Svolvær (SVJ) and Evenes (EVE).
Public transportation is limited in Lofoten, and while there is a Taxi App used across Norway, we understand taxis are expensive and hard to come by outside of the two main towns (Svolvær and Leknes).
Packing Suggestions
-
Bring layers, and waterproof gear for outdoor adventures, including the ceremony!
Don’t forget your bathing suit, as there are saunas and a hot tub at Reinefjorden Sjøhus.

Oslo is Norway’s largest city and could be part of your journey to Lofoten. We really enjoyed the few days we spent in Oslo in 2024.
Neighbourhoods:
Grünerløkka - bohemian vibe and trendy shops and restaurants
Frogner - known for luxurious homes and high-end shops and restaurants ( Homansbyen in particular was nice to wander around and have lunch)
South of Sofienberg Park (SoSoPa) - unofficial neighbourhood that houses trendy restaurants and boutiques
Things to do:
Oslo Opera House - right on the waterfront sits this iconic building designed to look like a glacier. Be sure to explore the roof!
Nasjonalgalleriet - traditional and modern art gallery, includes many of Edvard Munch’s best known creations (incl. The Scream)
Royal Palace - highly approachable 173-room palace that sits beside Slottsparken
Vigelandsanlegget - collection of Gustav Vigeland’s sculptures found within Frognerparken
Go for a Sauna down at the waterfront
Shopping:
Oslo has a wonderful consignment and vintage clothing scene, including a few of our favourites: Cirkulær (both locations), Fretex Arkivet, Borti and Robot
Norway Designs is a lifestyle store that focuses on Norwegian design, craftsmanship and unique small-scale products from Norway
Food & Drink:
Cocktails: Poppy, SVANEN
Indian Street Food & Co - Brett Buchanan’s favourite restaurant in Oslo
Mamma Pizza - Another Latuskie favourite from the Oslo visit

Things to do:
Wander around Bryggen
Take the funicular up Mount Fløyen
Go on a cruise of the fjord
Hit up Heit Sauna
Where to eat:
The Unicorn Fish Restaurant [Seafood restaurant in Bryggen. The mother of the bride took on the all-you-can-eat fresh crab challenge in 2024, and Brett (Julia’s brother-in-law) had “the best steak” here. Highly recommend]
The fish market has several restaurants within it, all serving fresh seafood
Fjåk chocolate shop & café - for hot chocolates

Norway has a lot to offer beyond the above, we would encourage you to do some of your own research if you’re planning to take a trip beyond the few days in Lofoten.
We really enjoyed our time in the Western Fjords (Loen, Ålesund, Aurland, Undredal, etc)
